WEEK 9: "To Kill A Mockingbird"

RESOURCES: EagleTV SyllabusBronx Masquerade Novel (1-80), Notebook Check #3, To Kill A Mockingbird (movie link)

MONDAY

  1. W-up: N/A
  2. Go to www.usatestprep.com and complete any incomplete assignments for partial credit (50%).
  3. Use your answer sheet handed to you in class to take Mock EOC on USATESTPREP. Your score on answer sheet should match the score online when you are finished plugging in the "Student" column of your answers (see below).  If you did not take Mock EOC then you must take test today in lab and finish for homework. 
    • After you receive a score for your completed Mock EOC, begin practicing the skills by placing  mouse over "MILESTONES EOC" then click on "9TH LIT & COMP".  See image below.  Work on turning the dots to green by completing practice questions or playing games related to that skill. 
HW DUE 10/3
1.) Notebook Check on Tuesday 3rd.
2.) Watch YouTube video introducing To Kill A Mockingbird" and answer the questions below. 

TUESDAY

  1. W-up: Claims
  2. Class Discussion on Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, Scottsboro Boys and events surrounding the setting of To Kill A Mockingbird.
  3. Watch To Kill A Mockingbird & complete viewing guide.
HW DUE 10/4:
1.) Read Slate article What It’s Like to Be Black in the Criminal Justice System.  
2.) Choose one of the disparities (injustices) and summarize the problem people of color face then propose a possible solution.

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY

  1. Finish watching movie
  2. Complete viewing guide
  3. Discuss the symbols in To Kill A Mockingbird (ie: Tree, Mockingbird, Boo)

FRIDAY
  1. Writer's Workshop: Complete a RACER paragraph comparing Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird to a modern day Atticus.  How are they similar in their ability to sacrifice for what they believed in?
HW DUE 10/9:
1.) USATESTPREP: Complete the practice questions on developing claims
2.) Sign permission slip and bring $8 on Monday 9th for opportunity to get out of class to watch a play.  Also get a missing homework grade for attending.  MONDAY IS LAST DAY TO BRING $$$
