    • Article: Read the article about US media bias during Nazi Germany in 1931 and write an essay explaining what types of media bias (SSSSLOP) were used to present bias information about Hitler as news to the world.  Was the bias supportive or critical of the Nazi/Hitler regime.  Provide evidence from both articles (Link: Article Link #1Article Link #2)

  1. Persuasive Test #1: Write in top left name,date, period. You have 20 minutes only.
  2. Finalize EOC #1: Proofread your rough draft after getting a grade then type it in Word and save to your lunch number. 
  3. Class Anthology: Type up the poem or short story you will add to class anthology if you haven't already and save to lunch number
  4. Gallery Walk: At 10:30, copy the media bias organizer below and begin gallery walk. Visit a minimum of two computers and complete the graphic organizer that you copied in your notes section. Organizer: Headline|  Media Bias Types| Aprrove/Criticize

  1. W-up 30#:Fast Food/Min Wage. Read the article and find evidence from author for why he believes the minimum wage should be raised. Complete sections 1-4 in writing process organizer.

  1. W-up 32: War on Drugs Targets Blacks. Read the HuffPost article and answer the following question: What were the real motivations (reasons) for the War on Drug started by Nixon in 1971?  Provide evidence from the interview making sure to explain the effects of this big lie on the various communities targeted.

  1.  W-up #32: Word Map "Propaganda." Write The definition for the word propaganda use it in a sentence provide examples of propaganda and the symbol or image that represents the concept of propaganda.
  2. TOP/Brainstorm/Movie: Watch "The Giver" and gather evidence of how the movie is an example of dystopian society.  Use the notes below to understand the 9 characteristics of dystopian worlds.

E.) HuffPost: Read the editorial A Citizen's View: The Responsibility of the Media in a Democratic Society and in your notes section answer the following questions:

  • Explain what the author means when using Thomas Jefferson's quote "The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, in as much as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.
  • What are 3 solutions to media bias the author mentions.
  • What is one example of media bias the author used to frame the problem.
F.) Barely a Story: Think of a story not worthy of the news and design a paper using the link below. Include 2 examples of media bias in it. One slide should be the newspaper slide and the second slide should explain the types of media bias you used.  This will be presented in the lab on Monday. March 21.

  1. W-up #28: St. Patrick's Day.  Explain what you would do if you had a lucky 4 leaf clover and any wish was your command.  What would you do with it?
  2. Watch: History of St. Patrick's Day and read "How the Irish Became White" 
    • Discussion: How is the treatment of current Hispanic migrants similar to that of the first Irish Americans?
  3. Social Issue Poster: Copy the organizer from this link  and complete a rough draft for your social issue.  It must include:
    •  A catch slogan (rhyme or repetition)
    • 2-3 persuasive appeals (KELP)
    • An image (drawing, print-out, graph, symbol)
    • Color

  • Mock EOC Extended Response #1: 
      1. Essay Topic: According to the author, should the war on drugs end? Provide evidence of his argument by developing a five paragraph essay. Each body paragraph must focus on a different persuasive appeal (KELP).
      2. Brainstorm: T.O.P before you gather info to put in brainstorm (in rough draft section copy essay topic and complete both TOP/brainstorm)
      3. Gather Evidence: Read the article 7 Facts About Drugs That Will Make You Question Everything You Know and watch the video on addiction to gather evidence you will place on brainstorm and use in essay paragraphs.
      4. HW Rough Draft: Type up rough draft in word doc and save as Mock EOC 1 to your lunch number.
