1. Complete a double-entry journal for any new character on pgs 80-130. Place t-chart with quote and your analysis in warmup section. 
2. Read pgs. 80-120. Update character log for characters after Tanisha Scott
3.  Click on new vocab list here >>>VOCAB #4 <<< and complete on separate sheet of paper

TUESDAY
1. Watch movie and analyze the similarities between novel and movie The Freedom Writers in the form of a paragraph with text evidence.

WEDNESDAY
1. Half Day Schedule: Finish movie and score writing.
HW: Character Logs (Sterling-Steve), and Vocab List #4.

THURSDAY
1. Practice punctuating dialogue (1-3)
2. Read Sterling's chapter in novel and update logs.
3. Read poem America Screaming and Imagine and use TPCASTT to analyze poetry for better understanding.
4. Write 2nd Open Mic poem using Imagine poem as inspiration to think about something in your life you hope for and imagine getting better.

FRIDAY
1. Practice punctuating dialogue (3-6)
2. Read Diondra's section and poem "Deep-Dive" in novel and update logs.
3. Present "Imagine poem for Open Mic Friday

WEEK 4: Novel Unit

MONDAY
  1. Setup USATESTPREP.  Use codes below to create an account.  Your username and password should be your lunch #.  Make sure to add yourself to Mr. Leuleseged's class

  2. With your partner, create a PowerPoint or Google Slides for your assigned poem.  You will have 7 slides for each letter in T.P.C.A.S.T.T.  You have only the time in the lab to complete this.  Save your work to your gmail or student number before leaving lab.
  3. Read pgs. 40-80 in the novel Bronx Masquerade  and complete sections in character list for each new character your read about.
  4. Begin vocab list #3 (Due 8/24).

TUESDAY
  1. Double-entry Journal: Find a quote in pages 36-46 that reveal either Lupe's or Gloria's central conflict.
  2. Read/listen to pgs. 45-53 and update character log.
  3. With partner, finalize TPCASTT PowerPoint for assigned poem from novel.
  4. Gallery Walk: Visit a minimum of 4 laptops and jot down information about each poem

WEDNESDAY
  1. Double-entry Journal: Find the 4 examples of figurative language in Janelle's poem Inside on pg. 49 in the novel and place on left side.  On right side of double-entry label the figurative language and comment on the effect it has on the poem's theme or tone.
  2. USATESTPREP: Complete assignment in usa. Minimum score 85%. 
  3. Read pgs. 40-90 in Bronx Masquerade and complete character logs and vocab list.
  4. Gallery Walk: Finish walking around and gathering info on as many poems as you can.

THURSDAY
  1. Write a RACER paragraph explaining the theme or conflict in passage from The Most Dangerous Game  
  2. Read Leslie and Judianne chapters in Bronx Masquerade and update character and vocab logs.
HW: Character Logs (Gloria-Tanisha) and Vocab List #3 due Friday.  Study for quiz.  Their will be questions about one poem in this section.

WEEK 3: Novel Unit

MONDAY
  1. Revise narrative writing from Friday using notes from mini-lesson on imagery.
  2. Read pgs. 3-17 in the novel Bronx Masquerade  
  3. Complete sections in character list for each new character your read about.
  4. Begin vocab list #2 (Due 8/17).
HW: Character Logs (Wes-Lupe) and Vocab List #2 due Friday 17th. Work on them daily.
TUESDAY
  1. Notes: Harlem Renaissance
  2. Research one Harlem Renaissance poet and pick a poem you read and liked to share in class on Wednesday. 
  3. Read pgs. 3-40 in preparation of the quiz this Friday
  4. Complete character list up to Lupe and finish vocab list #2.
HW: Choose a poet/poem from Harlem Renaissance.  Take a pic or copy poem and prepare to discuss what you enjoyed about it.

WEDNESDAY
  1. Watch 13th and complete a 2-point writing on how the 13th amendment didn't completely eliminate slavery.  
THURSDAY
  1. Use TPCASTT to analyze "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes.
  2. Notes: Iambic, Ballads, and Jazz influences in Poetry 
  3. Use TPCASTT with a partner to analyze your assigned poem.  Use computer paper to write TPCASTT from top to bottom and fill-in the info about your poem.  Use color and images that symbolize the themes or subjects mentioned in your poem.
  4. Review for Novel Quiz #1  
HW: Complete character log (Wes-Lupe) and vocab list #2. Complete your TPCASTT presentation for assigned poem.

WEEK 2: Diagnostic Testing (SRI/Unit 1 Pretest)

MONDAY

1. SRI: Click the "Scholastic Student" icon on your computer and login using your lunch # for username and password.  Raise hand if you cannot get logged in. You will be taking a reading test to see what level reader you are. Record your SRI score in your notebook under "Test/Quizzes"

2. Unit 1 Pretest:  You will use the answer sheet given to you in the lab and label it "Unit 1 Pretest."  Read the passages and choose the best answer.  Turn in answer sheet to teacher when done.
