MONDAY:
  1. Explain 2-4 major debates in the movie The Great Debaters. Provide evidence and support of what you found effective and ineffective within each debate and any styles or appeals used. 
  2. Pick 2-3 debates to complete a summary on from the website below: Debate Link
TUESDAY:

  1. Analyze the "Pyramid of Capitalist System" and identify the groups represented and what the author reveals of this economic system. Pyramid of Capitalist System Link
  2. Listen to audio of General Butlers "War is a Racket" and complete a t-chart with the main idea of his essays, and the evidence used to support his claim that the military is a rigged game for profit, Audio Link (YouTube)      Text Link ("War is a Racket")
  3. HW: Turn the T-Chart into a paragraph to answer the question, "Why war?"
WEDNESDAY:

  1. Watch "Dirty Wars" and complete the BCR: What is the appearance vs reality of war?  Due Friday for a grade.  Needs to be 7 or more sentence with at least 3 examples of evidence from the documentary.

THURSDAY:

  1. Group the EOC vocabulary into 3 columns: "I know, I think I know, and I have no clue." EOC Vocab (Prezi)
  2. Choose 3 words from the "I think I know, and I have no clue" and complete Freyer Models on the poster paper in class.
  3. HW: Bring a #2 pencil for tomorrow's mock EOC.

FRIDAY:

  1. Take practice/mock EOC Test (80 questions)

WEEK AT A GLANCE
Monday: Finish persuasive presentations.  Rehearse: Each member must be able to explain how their print ad and 30-sec commercial use 2 or more persuasive techniques and provide support for their answer. Complete survey: http://www.cobbk12.org/survey

Tuesday: Presentation Day 1

Wednesday: Presentation Day 2.  Watch "Beyond Vietnam" and pull evidence of pathos, logos, and ethos MLK used to oppose the controversial Vietnam War.  Write one paragraph explaining which reason (pathos, logos, ethos) was most effective in detesting the war.  Tie that in with current events today with Iran.

Thursday: Elements of Debate (A.R.E). Watch "Great Debaters."

Friday: Finish watching "Great Debaters."  Research facts and stats on the following topics for next weeks debate: Topics for Debate

1. Create a slogan for product using "34 Ways to Write a Slogan"
2. Complete an online/paper poster for your product using one of the poster maker links:
3. Complete a rough draft for your commercial using the Story Board as a guide to your 30-second commercial.
4. Finalize your commercial using one of the following links:

Tuesday: Introduced the elements of satire.

Wednesday: Analyze artwork that uses elements of satire to critique society and human vice (use organizer in PPT link).  Analyze student satire for elements and produce own satirical letter about a societal issue you want to ridicule. See class PPT

Thursday: Quiz tomorrow on the following elements of satire: incongruity, reversal, parody, humor, irony (situational, dramatic, verbal), exaggeration, understatement, fake enthusiasm.

Friday: Mr. Pearson Lesson

Weekly Focus: Character Study "A Bronx Masquerade"
Writing Topic: How is Prior in Divergent similar to any of the characters in A Bronx Masquerade?

Monday: Students completed TAPP and gathered information from "Divergent" to complete a brainstorm.  Students also answered discussion questions about movie.
