WEEK 9: RESEARCH/DEBATE

MONDAY:
  1. Practice labeling ethos, logos, pathos by using handout (notes).  Analyze song by J Cole for persuasive appeals.
  2. Vocab List #6
  3. Read 3 examples of persuasive writing (essay, speech, song).  Use organizer to gather information from writings. 
  4. Share/Tell: Discuss the 3 claims in the persuasive writings and identify the persuasive appeal used most to convince reader.
HW: Watch the news OR  advertisements tonight.  Sum-up the main argument (claim; ie: Donald Trump is a liar) in the news or advertisement. Prepare to discuss which appeal (ie: Kairos, Ethos, Logos, Pathos) was heavily used to make the point.

TUESDAY
  1. W-up: Identify if ethos has been used effectively in each statement.
  2. Use persuasive appeals notes from Monday to annotate the President Obama's speech "America's Schoolchildren" in Sprinboard textbook (pgs. 69-75)
  3. Complete discussion questions on pg. 75
HW: NONE

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY
  1. W-up: Identify if pathos (Wednesday) and logos (Thursday) has been used effectively in each statement.
  2. Watch The Great Debaters and complete the viewing guide.
  3. Use notes to analyze the 3 debates in film--Paul Quinn, Oklahoma City College, and Harvard--for persuasive appeals. 
HW: Complete Vocab List #6, and practice identifying and creating arguments using pathos, ethos, logos using STUDY GUIDE. QUIZ FRIDAY OCTOBER 5TH!!!
