WEEK 1: Getting to Know You/Course Overview

Syllabus, Notebook Check #1

MONDAY:
  1. Body Biography: Students completed an activity on symbolism as an ice breaker activity.
  2. Interview: Students interviewed one student about their body bio in order to present their findings to class on Tues.
HW: NONE

TUESDAY:
  1. Presentations: Students presented their interviewees body bio to the class to better get to know each student in the class.
HW: NONE

WEDNESDAY:
  1. Syllabus Review: Students highlighted information that will appear on syllabus quiz on Thursday.
  2. Socratic Seminar: Students watched Nate Parker's Who am I spoken word and jotted down one line that stood out and a question they would use to lead a conversation on the subject, and poet.
  3.  Personal I am Poem: Students completed an I Am poem using a template to reveal more of their motivations and help the class get to know one another more.
HW: SIGNED SYLLABUS (due Mon) AND STUDY FOR SYLLABUS QUIZ TOMORROW!!!

THURSDAY:
  1. Syllabus Quiz: 8-10 questions covering the  syllabus review from Wednesday.
  2. Unpacking Unit 1: Students used a graphic organizer to chart the verbs and nouns in the standards for Unit 1.
HW: NONE
FRIDAY:
  1. Pre-test: Students will be taking their writing diagnostic to gauge their writing skills before unit 1.
HW: SIGNED SYLLABUS, 2 PARAGRAPHS,  & NOTEBOOK CHECK (DUE: 8/7)
