MONDAY
  1.  CommonLit: Read "Shut the Door Speech" and complete the following...
    1. Annotate/Highlight: As you read, take notes on the speaker’s argument (reasons why) for stopping immigrants from coming into America.
    2. Answer multiple choice (guided/assessment questions)
    3. Answer the writing prompt in your 2-point writing section of your notebook.  Label it "Shut the Door Speech"-Lab #5. 
      1. Writing Prompt: What are the effects of prejudice? Use evidence from this text, your own experience, and other art, literature, or history in your answer
  2. American StreetRead pages 1-160 by Friday.
HW: Finish your 2-point writing from lab today and have your Lit Circle questions completed and ready to present in class with partner on Tuesday 10th.

TUESDAY
  1. Warm-up: Context Clues
  2. Writer's Workshop:
    • Review data from CommonLit "Shut the Door" speech.
    • Discuss effects of prejudice paragraph
  3. Diary Entry: Find a quote in chapters 5-10 that you will use to start a dairy entry in the point of view of one of the 5 characters in these chapters 
  4. Read chapters 5-7. 
HW: Read chapters 5-10 (pgs. 1-104) by Friday for quiz.

WEDNESDAY
  1. Notes: Different Lwas of Haiti
  2. National Geographic on Vodou 
  3. Lwas of Haiti Activity: Choose one Lwas from notes to complete an illustration and summary of that lwas.
  4. Read chapters 1-10 for quiz this Friday.
HW: Read chapters 1-10 (pgs. 1-104) by Friday for quiz.

THURSDAY
  1. Warm-up: Main Idea
  2. Read/Annotate chapters 7-10
  3. Facebook: Choose a character from the novel & fill out the information (even draw a picture & have others write on his/her “wall”).
  4. Review for chapters 1-10 quiz on Friday 13th
HW: Read chapters 1-10 (pgs. 1-104) by Friday for quiz.  Also review the vocab (1st 10 words) and notes on parts of speech.

FRIDAY

  1. Read chapters 1-10 and prepare for online test on Monday 16th.
  2. Get username/password info for  Clever.com and USATESTPREP.com.  You will be using these two sites to complete your work from home during the quarantine.   Make sure to visit this class blog daily for your assignments and quizzes.
