- Click on link to Zinc, a new resource we will use each Monday to improve our reading and vocabulary comprehension. Once in Clever, select Zinc and look in notification (looks like a bell in top right corner):
- Take High School Exam to test your reading levels. Record your score (1-7 scale).
- Play vocab game before reading How to be a Good Bad American Girl using Zinc.
- Complete 5 question quiz after reading to prepare us for our reading of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird
- W-up: Transition Words
- Notes on Rise and Fall of Jim Crow
- Read Ch. 1 of To Kill a Mockingbird
- Discuss the main characters introduced in chapter 1.
- W-up: 4-point writing. Describe what it was like being African American in the South at the turn of the century. Use facts about segregation on pages 196-199 to develop your situation.
- Review Jim Crow notes
- Preview Ch. 1 Vocab
- Read Chapter 1-2.
- Complete vocab list
- Read chapters 1-2 in class. Complete a double-entry journal by finding a quote/example showing the development of the characters, setting, or conflict.

- 2-point writing: How is the introduction of the novel different than that in the movie?
