  3. Lab Assignment: Complete Source Sheet #2 . Make sure to complete a works cited for each source you use in your research.  Use the Works Cited Maker
  4. Quiz: Chapter 1-5 vocab 
HW: Source #3 (4 quotes or facts).

TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY
  1. HW DUE: Source Sheets 1-3
  2. Complete rough draft of research paper making sure to double space.
  3. Proof-read intro for organization (H.I.T) and body paragraph 1 and 2 using RACER.
HW: Rough Draft (5 paragraphs) due.  Study for Fridays quiz on vocab, and research terms. Extra Credit if you visit Eagle Writing Center TODAY and have a senior proof read your essay.  Make an appointment >>>HERE<<<

THURSDAY
  1. HW DUE: Rough Draft (5 paragraphs)
  2. Proof-read for punctuation of parenthetical citations, capitalization of titles and peoples names, comma splices, indentation
  3. Write final draft of paper.  Paper due at end of class 
HW: Final draft of research paper due Friday at start of class. Study for quiz on chapter 1-5 vocab for To Kill a Mockingbird. Study formulas for intro paragraph and body paragraph (HIT vs. RACER).  Study parts of thesis statement (TPR vs TOM). Know the difference between revising and editing.  Study what a Works Cited page is and how one would cite a source in MLA and study how to punctuate parenthetical citations.  Use the search box on blog to see if there are any resources you can study right here on blog.

    • Take High School Exam to test your reading levels. Record your score (1-7 scale).
    • Play vocab game before reading How to be a Good Bad American Girl using Zinc.
    • Complete 5 question quiz after reading to prepare us for our reading of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird
WEDNESDAY
  1. W-up: Transition Words
  2. Notes on Rise and Fall of Jim Crow
  3. Read Ch. 1 of To Kill a Mockingbird
  4. Discuss the main characters introduced in chapter 1.
THURSDAY
  1. W-up: 4-point writing.  Describe what it was like being African American in the South at the turn of the century.  Use facts about segregation on pages 196-199 to develop your situation.
  2. Review Jim Crow notes
  3. Preview Ch. 1 Vocab
  4. Read Chapter 1-2.

FRIDAY
  1. Read chapters 1-2 in class.  Complete a double-entry journal by finding a quote/example showing the development of the characters, setting, or conflict.
  2. Watch TKAM and complet viewing guide
  3. 2-point writing: How is the introduction of the novel different than that in the movie?
HW DUE MONDAY: Read chapters 1-4.  Complete vocab list.  Prepare to be tested on the events and vocab in the first couple of chapters.

WEEK 9: RESEARCH/DEBATE

MONDAY:
  1. Practice labeling ethos, logos, pathos by using handout (notes).  Analyze song by J Cole for persuasive appeals.
  2. Vocab List #6
  3. Read 3 examples of persuasive writing (essay, speech, song).  Use organizer to gather information from writings. 
  4. Share/Tell: Discuss the 3 claims in the persuasive writings and identify the persuasive appeal used most to convince reader.
HW: Watch the news OR  advertisements tonight.  Sum-up the main argument (claim; ie: Donald Trump is a liar) in the news or advertisement. Prepare to discuss which appeal (ie: Kairos, Ethos, Logos, Pathos) was heavily used to make the point.

TUESDAY
  1. W-up: Identify if ethos has been used effectively in each statement.
  2. Use persuasive appeals notes from Monday to annotate the President Obama's speech "America's Schoolchildren" in Sprinboard textbook (pgs. 69-75)
  3. Complete discussion questions on pg. 75

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY
  1. W-up: Identify if pathos (Wednesday) and logos (Thursday) has been used effectively in each statement.
  2. Watch The Great Debaters and complete the viewing guide.
  3. Use notes to analyze the 3 debates in film--Paul Quinn, Oklahoma City College, and Harvard--for persuasive appeals. 
HW: Complete Vocab List #6, and practice identifying and creating arguments using pathos, ethos, logos using STUDY GUIDE. QUIZ FRIDAY OCTOBER 5TH!!!
