WEEK 16: EOC PREP

RESOURCES: EOC STUDY GUIDE

MONDAY
  1. ACTIVITY  #1: Read notes on how to write thesis sentence and complete two thesis sentences for the topics: legal driving age, and cell phones.  
  2. ACTIVITY #2: Choose either topic you created thesis sentences for and  develop a paragraph using the RACER rubric.  This should be one RACER paragraph that matches a thesis you already wrote in activity 1.
  3. USATESTPREP: Continue working on the 27 dots/skills from the Mock EOC. You have until the end of period to change all of them to yellow/green.
HW DUE 11/28:
1. Finish your two thesis sentences and one RACER body paragraph.  We will score them on Tuesday.


TUESDAY
  1. ACTIVITY #1: Review the three parts of a thesis using the examples completed yesterday on legal driving age, and banning cell phone in school.
  2. ACTIVITY #2: Score/Revise RACER paragraph you developed for one of the two thesis statements from yesterday.
  3. ACTIVITY #3: Practice multiple choice questions from USATestPrep 
HW DUE 11/29:
    1. Practice writing intro paragraphs (H.I.T.) with a thesis sentence 
    2. Practice turning main ideas/reasons from thesis into RACER body paragraphs.

      1. Timed Typing (35 min): Type up your extended response from Tuesday under 40 min.

      1. Timed Constructed Narrative (10-15min): Choose a narrative prompt and develop a short story using the SPEED and PAINT A PICTURE strategies.

      1. Finish watching A Time to Kill.  Complete viewing guide (1-17) and write a paragraph answering the writing prompt on viewing guide.

      1. Vocab List #4: Complete definitions for Kairos, Ethos, Logos, Pathos, Claim, Counter-Claim
      2. Mini-lesson: Take notes on the 4 types of persuasive appeals (KELP).
      3. Spring Board Textbook: Read A Letter from Birmingham by MLK and highlight/label any examples of persuasive appeals (KELP).  Place examples on KELP organizer

      HW DUE 11/9:
      1. Complete questions 1-6 on page 209 in SpringBoard Textbook.

      THURSDAY

      1. Finish analyzing Letter from Birmingham Jail by MLK for persuasive appeals (KELP).
      2. In groups, place examples of your assigned appeal (Kairos, Ethos, Logos, or Pathos) from letter onto poster paper.
      3. Gallery Walk: Identify which examples did not belong.

      FRIDAY

      1. Read Why College Isn't And Shouldn't Have to Be For Everyone from HuffPost by Robert Reich (pg. 83-85 SB).
      2. Identify more examples of persuasive appeals (KELP) used by the author by highlighting and labeling each example/evidence.  Annotate the text in the margins by explaining why you highlighted it.
      3. Group: Place one example of each appeal (KELP) you identified and place on KELP organizer
      4. USATESTPREP: Complete practice questions for the skills missed on Mock EOC.  

      HW DUE
      1. Read Actually, College is Very Much Worth It on page 86-87 in Springboard. Complete questions 1-6. Prepare for timed writing in lab on Monday 13th on the assigned reading.
