  2. Open Mic Friday: Write a poem inspired by the events taking place in Houston.  Read the article and create one of the following types of poem to express the feelings around the topic. 
HW DUE 9/1: Test on pages 50-90 and vocab list, Open Mic Poem on Houston for extra credit on test (5 pts).  If you want to use your notes you need to have your character chart, and TPCAST fully complete.

  1. Read both articles about eclipses:Article Link #1, LINK #2
  2. Writing Prompt: In both articles, it mentions that "there is a long history of people believing eclipses are omens that bad things will follow." Write a short story in the point of view of a South Cobb High School student who is describing what they see before, during, and or after the eclipse.  Be detailed and use imagery and suspense to build interest.
    • Eclipse Video: Watch video on eclipse myths to help you with the creative writing.

WEEK 3: Alternate Ending/Theme

  1. Rubric: Review rubric for 2-minute skit.
  2. Groups: Pitch your idea for an alternate ending (The Necklace) to group and choose one to develop into a 2 minute script. 
  3. Writer's Workshop: Identify the elements of a script (see: Script handout) and complete final draft of script.
HW DUE 8/15: Final Version of Script Due, Presentations on 8/15

TUESDAY

  1. Presentations: Alternate Ending for Necklace
  2. 2-Point Writing: Develop a RACER paragraph explaining which ending you enjoyed most.  Provide evidence of the theme and examples from skit to support answer.

WEEK 1: Getting to Know You/Course Overview

  1. Body Biography: Students completed an activity on symbolism as an ice breaker activity.
  2. Interview: Students interviewed one student about their body bio in order to present their findings to class on Tues.

  1. Presentations: Students presented their interviewees body bio to the class to better get to know each student in the class.

WEDNESDAY:
  1. Syllabus Review: Students highlighted information that will appear on syllabus quiz on Thursday.
  2. Socratic Seminar: Students watched Nate Parker's Who am I spoken word and jotted down one line that stood out and a question they would use to lead a conversation on the subject, and poet.
  3.  Personal I am Poem: Students completed an I Am poem using a template to reveal more of their motivations and help the class get to know one another more.
